Krishna and Arjuna: Friends Forever

Story

Vasu and Raja used to sit together in the classroom. They were known for being best friends—at least, that’s what they called themselves. But sometimes, their friendship wasn’t so smooth. Sometimes they would argue over the movie they would watch, other days, they’d argue over games or who got the last piece of chocolate. They still cared for each other, but their fights made them wonder if they were really good friends.

Today, in the classroom, Vasu and Raja had a big argument in front of all the classmates over English notes.

Their moral education teacher, Minakshi Ma’am, entered the classroom. She smiled warmly and said, “Today, we’re going to talk about something very special—friendship.”

Vasu and Raja exchanged nervous glances. They were excited but worried about what Ma’am might say about true friendship.

Minakshi Ma’am noticed their unease and began, “Let me tell you the story of Krishna and Arjuna, two friends whose bond teaches us the true meaning of friendship.”

The Story of Krishna and Arjuna

“Arjuna was a great warrior, brave and skilled,” Ma’am began. “And Krishna was wise, kind, and full of love. They were cousins, but more than that, they were the best of friends.”

“Like us!” whispered Raja, nudging Vasu.

Ma’am smiled and continued. “One day, there was going to be a big war, the Kurukshetra War. Both Arjuna, the Pandav Prince and Duryodhana, the leader of the Kauravas, wanted Krishna’s help. Krishna gave them a choice: one could have his powerful army, while the other could have Krishna himself as a friend and guide, but Krishna would not fight in the war.”

Raja’s eyes widened. “What did Arjuna choose?”

Ma’am nodded knowingly. “Arjuna chose Krishna. He said, ‘I don’t need an army. A friend like you, Krishna, is enough for me.”

Vasu leaned forward, fascinated. “But what happened during the war?”

Ma’am continued, “On the battlefield, Arjuna faced a tough moment. He saw his family members and friends standing on the other side in support of evil, ready to fight. He didn’t want to hurt them and decided he couldn’t fight.”

“What did Krishna do?” asked Raja.

“Krishna, as his friend and charioteer, guided him. He told Arjuna that sometimes doing the right thing can be very hard, but it’s important to follow your duty and stand for the right. He also explained that true strength comes from understanding and doing what’s right, not just from winning or losing.”

"When the Kurukshetra war began, Arjuna was in big danger. Karna’s powerful weapon could have defeated Arjuna, but Krishna saved him by pressing the chariot into the ground. The arrow missed Arjuna’s head and only damaged his crown."

“So, Arjuna found the courage to fight, with Krishna’s guidance,” Ma’am said. “And together, they showed that true friendship is about trust, support, and always helping each other do the right thing.”

Vasu raised his hand. “But, Ma’am, what if friends fight sometimes?”

“That’s okay, Vasu,” Ma’am replied. “Even the best friends may have disagreements. But true friends always forgive, help each other grow, and never let small things break their bond.”

From that day on, Vasu and Raja tried to be better friends. They still argued sometimes, but they always remembered the story of Krishna and Arjuna.
