Ram-Hanuman Milan: Story of Devotion and Complete Surrender

This story teaches us that true love and devotion to God make you fearless and selfless.

Ram Hanuman Milan

Story

Saumya was a young girl around 8 years old. Right from a young age, she had a keen interest in religion and philosophies. She never purchased fairy tales and mystery books. Whenever she visited a bookshop or went to a book fair, she would purchase books on Krishna Bhagwan, Rama Ji, and other mythological storybooks. She would ask her mother to order books from the myNachiketa website, as she loved their books on Hindu Philosophy, Gita teachings, and teachings from Ramayana.

Rama Hanuman Milan 1

One day, she was sitting in a park and was lost in her thoughts. Her friends kept calling her name, but she was completely engrossed in her thoughts.

Ahaana, her friend shook her up and said, “What are you thinking? Where are you lost?”

Dhruv, another friend said, “She is daydreaming.” Everyone laughed including Saumya herself.

Saumya said, “I was thinking about the story of Rama Ji and Hanuman Milan that I read yesterday. What a wonderful story! I was imagining and recreating all the events in my mind.”

All the friends shouted together, “What Story? We also want to know about it.”

Saumya said, “Alright! I will tell you the story but on one condition. All of you will sit quietly.”

Now listen!

Rama Hanuman Milan 2

When Bhagwan Rama was exiled from Ayodhya, he, Mata Sita, and Laxmana went to live in the forests of Chitrakoot. After spending a few years in the forests of Chitrakoot, they moved to the forests of Panchvati. It was here, that the demon king Ravana abducted Mata Sita, as he wanted to marry her.

After Devi Sita, the wife of Shri Rama, was abducted by Ravana and taken to Lanka, Shri Rama and his brother Lakshmana began their search for her. Their journey took them southwards where they entered a kingdom of vanaras (monkey-like beings) ruled by King Sugriva.

Sugriva was hiding in the mountains. He was hiding from his elder brother Vali, who was very strong and crooked. Vali wanted to harm Sugriva so that he could become the king of vanaras.

Sugriva would always send his trusted advisor, Hanuman, to keep watch for enemies. One day Hanuman, who was a great devotee of Bhagwan Rama was roaming in the forest of Rushyamukh mountain.

Hanuman saw two men walking toward the mountain. Both of them were wearing simple clothes and appeared heroic and dignified. Their personality was in contrast to their appearance. Hanuman noticed their grace and divinity and felt an immediate attraction toward them.

To gather information about them, Hanuman transformed himself into the form of a learned Brahmin and approached them. With humility and respect, he inquired, “Who are you? You seem to be wandering in this forest like a rishi (sage), but your appearance, attitude, and weapons speak of something else. Who are you, and what brings you here?”

Rama Ji, smiled at Hanuman’s sincerity, introduced himself, and explained the story of Devi Sita’s abduction by Ravana. Bhagwan Rama also asked for help in finding her.

When Hanuman heard Shri Rama’s words, his heart was filled with joy and devotion. He realized that this was none other than Bhagwan Rama. Dropping his disguise, Hanuman knelt before Shri Rama and revealed his true form. With folded hands, he said, “I am Hanuman, a humble servant of Sugriva. I have waited my entire life for this moment, to serve you.”

Rama was deeply touched by Hanuman's humility, devotion, and readiness to serve. He embraced Hanuman, recognizing his pure heart. This was a physical meeting and a spiritual connection, establishing Hanuman as Rama’s most loyal and devoted servant.

This Rama-Hanuman Milan is a powerful symbol of the bond between the Bhagwan and the devotee. Hanuman's devotion to Shri Rama is revered as the ultimate expression of bhakti (devotion) and surrender.

Hanuman after meeting Bhagwan Rama found himself more powerful, wise, and fearless as he was a loving devotee and follower of the Prabhu.

All the children were in awe after listening to the story. There was a huge smile on their face. They shouted together, “Jai Shri Rama.”
