On the battlefield of Kurukshetra, brave Arjuna became confused and sad. He didn’t want to fight against his relatives and teachers. His friend and guide, Bhagwan Krishna, explained to him how to live a good, brave, and meaningful life. The battlefield of Kurukshetra in the Mahabharata is where Bhagwan Krishna gave the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna. This conversation evolved into the Bhagavad Gita, an 18-chapter work of divine wisdom. myNachiketa presents some important teachings from the Bhagavad Gita for Kids, compiled under the following headings:
1. Right Action
Krishna teaches Arjuna that doing the right thing with a pure heart is the first step to peace.
A) Doing Your Duty
Krishna tells Arjuna to do his duty without fear or selfish desire. You have the right to do your work, but not to control the results.
Work honestly and helpfully; don’t be lazy or greedy.
B) Working Without Selfish Desires (Nishkaam Karma)
When work is done with knowledge and kindness, it becomes worship.
A true worker remains calm, regardless of whether things go well or not.
A steady, peaceful mind helps one act wisely.

Lesson for kids:
Do your best, be kind, and play fair — what matters most is doing what’s right, not just winning. That’s what makes God and your heart happy.
2. Self-Knowledge
Krishna explains that we are not just our body or name — we are the soul (Atman), which never dies.
A) Understanding the Self
The soul is eternal; it cannot be cut, burned, or destroyed. The body dies, but the soul lives forever.
Everything in this world, the earth, the water, the air, and even our thoughts — all come from God.
Those who remember God with love definitely reach him.
B) Living With Wisdom
The whole world is filled with God’s presence.
Our body does the actions, and the one who understands and experiences these actions is the true self within.
Life is like a tree—God is its root, we live on its branches, and with true knowledge, we can reach the root and realise God.

Lesson for kids: You are not just your body — you are a bright spark of God’s light. Be brave and good, because your true self is pure and strong.

3. Devotion
Krishna shows that love for God is the easiest way to find peace and happiness.
A) Loving God With All Your Heart
God loves everyone — rich or poor — if they pray with true feelings.
“Even a leaf, a flower, or a drop of water offered with love is dear to Me.”
Krishna reveals that all beauty, power, and wisdom in the world are part of Him.
Arjuna sees Krishna’s divine form, shining with countless suns — everything and everyone within Him.
The best devotee is humble, kind, patient, and loving to all beings.
B) Faith in Everyday Life
Faith guides how we eat, speak, pray, and act. True faith is filled with goodness.
Doing work as an offering to God, without pride, makes life holy.

Lesson for kids: Love God the way you love your parents or best friend. Sing, pray, or simply think of Him with a smile — He is always near you.
4. Experiencing God
After learning about action, knowledge, and devotion, Arjuna experiences the presence of God everywhere.
A) Seeing God in Everything
Krishna shows his infinite form — all worlds, stars, and beings inside Him.
Goodness, activity, and laziness exist in everyone. We should rise beyond them to stay close to God.
Kindness, truth, and self-control are divine; anger, greed, and pride pull us away from peace.
B) The Final Teaching
Krishna sums up all wisdom:
Do your duty with love.
Know your true Self.
Offer everything to God.
Then your heart will be free and joyful forever.

Lesson for kids: God is everywhere — in sunlight, trees, friends, and even in your own heart. When you do good and stay kind, you are living with God. The Message of the Gita
At the end, Arjuna’s fear disappears. He stands up with courage, ready to do his duty.He now understands that:
Work with honesty (Right Action)
Know your soul (Self-Knowledge)
Love God deeply (Devotion)
See God everywhere (Experiencing God)
The Bhagavad Gita teaches us how to live with courage, wisdom, love, and peace — just like Arjuna did after hearing Krishna’s divine song.
