Kabir ke dohe

Doha 1

Jal mein kumbh kumbh mein jal hai, baahar bheetar paani.

Foota kumbh jal jal hi samaya, yahi tathya kathyo gyani.

Message

Children, a potter makes different objects of various shapes and sizes from clay. Although these objects look different, they are all made of the same clay. Similarly, we may all look different, but we are the same because we all have the same God within us.

Doha 2

Paani mein meen pyaasi re.

Mujhe sun sun aave haasi re.

Meaning

Kabir Das says that people do not recognize the God or truth that is present all around them. They search for God somewhere far away, even though He is close to them.

Message

Just like when we search everywhere for a lost toy and find it beside our pillow, we often look for God in distant places, not realizing He resides quietly within our hearts.

Doha 3

Jhoothe aacharan se, kabhi nahi milti preet.

Saccha man rakho, tabhi hogi sahi preet.

Meaning

Kabir Das says that we should connect with people truthfully and sincerely. God is found in truth.

Message

Children, true friendships are not built by choosing friends who have the latest toys or material things. Instead, be friends with those who show honesty and good behaviour.

Doha 4

Bura jo dekhan main chala, bura na miliya koy.

Jo man khoja aapna, mujhse bura na koy.

Meaning

In this Doha, Kabirdas says, it is said that before pointing out others' mistakes, we should carefully examine our own actions, as often the fault lies with us rather than others.

Message

Sometimes we get angry at our friends for not playing the game fairly when it might actually be our fault for not explaining the rules to them in the first place.

Doha 5

laali mere laal ki, jit dekhoon tit laal.

laali dekhan main gai, main bhi ho gai laal.

Meaning From this Kabir Doha, we understand that when we unite with God, we too become godlike. This divinity is then reflected in our actions.

Message

When we see an old friend after a long time, we feel very happy. This happiness shows in everything we do.
