Bhagwan Parshuram Protected Dharma

Story

Arya was a little girl who lived in her imagination. She loved reading books and listening to stories; while listening to them, she would slip into the imaginary world. Every night after dinner, she would go to her grandfather’s room to listen to a story. Her grandfather loved telling her stories.

Tonight, when Arya went to her grandfather’s room, she quickly slipped under the blanket and asked, “Dada ji, who is Bhagwan Parshurama? Today, Geeta and Raj were talking about the great Bhagwan Parshuram. I kept quiet as I did not know who he was. I felt very bad for not being a part of their conversation. So, tonight, could you tell me the story of Bhagwan Parshuram?”

Bhagwan Parshuram Protected Dharma

Dadaji warmly smiled and said, “Alright, dear Arya, today we will learn about Bhagwan Parshurama.”

Dadaji started narrating the story.

A long time ago, Rishi Bhrigu, a wise sage, started the Bhrigu Vansh. His son Richeek married Princess Satyavati. Satyavati asked Rishi Bhrigu to bless her and her mother with brave and wise sons. He gave them different prayers and rituals to follow. But there was a mix-up! Satyavati followed her mother’s prayers, and her mother followed hers. Because of this, Rishi Bhrigu said that Satyavati’s son would have the bravery of a warrior.

But Satyavati asked for the blessing to pass on to her grandson instead.

Satyavati later had a son, Rishi Jamadagni. He was very wise and had a lovely wife, Devi Renuka. They prayed to the gods for a special child, and their prayers were answered!

The gods blessed them with a boy named Ram. As per the saying of Rishi Bhrigu, Satyavati’s grandson, Ram was born with the bravery of a warrior, even though his family was of sages. He was an avatar of Bhagwan Vishnu.

“O! Avatar of Vishnu Ji.” said Arya

“Yes, Bhagwan Parshuram was the 6th Avatar of Bhagwan Vishnu,” said Dadaji. When Ram grew up, he received a special gift from Bhagwan Shiv—a magical axe called 'Parshu'. It had great powers."

“Dadaji, what is Parshu?” asked Arya.

“Parshu means axe in Sanskrit, and since then, he is called Parshuram,” said Dadaji. Parshuram used this axe to fight against injustice and protect dharma. That is why he is remembered by this powerful name. With this axe, he could fight evil and protect the weak.

Oh! I see! exclaimed Arya.

“So how did he help people?” asked Arya.

Ah! Parshuram Ji faced many adventures in life, where he helped the needy.

"Like one day, Parshuram saw a group of kings being cruel to poor people. He couldn't bear to see injustice. "This is wrong!" he thought. With his powerful axe, Parshuram stood up to the cruel kings and taught them to be kind and fair."

In another instance, Parshuram Ji faced a proud king, Kartavirya Arjuna, who stole his father Rishi Jamadagni's magical cow. Furious at this injustice, Parshuram fought the king bravely and defeated him.

Similarly, he fought many kings who were doing injustice and troubling the poor people. He taught everyone that arrogance and harming the innocent lead to downfall.

“Oh! What a brave warrior he was”, said Arya.

“You know, you should also be brave and fair: Stand up for what is right, but never misuse your strength”, said Dadaji.

Arya asked, "Can I be like Parshuram?"

Dadaji said, “Of course! Be strong, wise, and helpful. Remember, true strength is in kindness and fairness."

As Arya started feeling sleepy, she yawned and said, “Ok, Dadaji, I will also stand up against injustice. I’ll support my friend who is being bullied by a boy in my class. Good night. I will listen to a new story tomorrow,” and she fell asleep.
