Hinduism - The Oldest Religion in the World Pic 1

Hinduism is a very old religion that began a long, long time ago in India. It teaches us how to live a good and kind life. In Hinduism, there is one God who is in everything — in the sky, in trees, in animals, and people too! This one God is known in many forms, like Bhagwan Brahma, Vishnu Ji, Bhagwan Shiva, Goddess Laxmi, and Saraswati, etc. Hinduism says that all living things are connected, and we should treat everyone with love and respect. It also teaches that we are all part of a big family, and that God lives inside every heart.

myNachiketa presents Hinduism - The oldest religion in the world.

The Story of Hinduism

Once upon a time, there were wise sages and saints who began finding answers to the big questions of life, like "Who am I?" and "What is my purpose?" They shared their thoughts and teachings, and over time, these ideas were written down in sacred texts. Some important texts include the Bhagavad Gita and the Vedas. These writings teach us lessons about being good, understanding our duties, and living our best lives.

Just like you have school subjects that teach you different skills, Hindu philosophy has special ideas too! Two very important thoughts are Karma and Dharma.

Karma means that every action you take has its results. Good actions have good results, and bad actions have bad results. Just like when you help a friend and feel happy, or when you don’t do your homework and feel anxious.

Dharma is about doing your duty and following what is right in your heart. As a student, it is your dharma to study; as a child, it is your dharma to help your parents; as a friend, it is your dharma to help them in need.

How Has Hinduism Changed Over Time?

A long time ago, people prayed by saying special chants called Vedic mantras. These mantras are in very old Sanskrit and come from the Vedas, the oldest Hindu books. Back then, people worshipped natural things like the sun (Surya), fire (Agni), wind (Vayu), and water. They lit sacred fires and gave offerings like ghee and grains. Priests would say prayers during big fire ceremonies called yajnas.

As time passed, Hinduism slowly changed. People started thinking about life, the soul, and God. New ideas came in the Upanishads, which said that God is in everything, and that our true self (called Atman) is the same as the one great soul (called Brahman).

Later, people began to tell beautiful stories about God in different forms, like Bhagwan Ram, Krishna, Shiv Ji, and Durga. These stories are found in books like the Ramayana, Mahabharata, and Puranas. Temples were built, and people started worshipping with bhajans (songs), pujas (prayers), and festivals. Love and devotion (called bhakti) became very important.

Hinduism and Culture

Have you ever been to a festival? Festivals are a big part of Hindu culture! Imagine how wonderful it is to gather with family and friends, eat delicious food, and celebrate! The Bhakti movement helped people feel closer to God through personal devotion. It showed that everyone, no matter who they are, can connect with God. During festivals, we connect with God through songs, prayers, and stories. People learn to be kind, truthful, and full of love.

Hinduism Today

Today, Hinduism is followed by millions of people. People still read holy books like the Gita, Ramayana, and Vedas, and they visit temples to pray. Many Hindus do puja at home, light lamps, say mantras like "Om", and offer flowers, sweets, and prayers to God. Hinduism teaches that God is in everything, and we should be kind to people, animals, and nature. Festivals like Diwali, Holi, Navratri, and Janmashtami are happily celebrated with family and friends. Even though the world has changed, Hinduism still helps people live with love, truth, peace, and respect for all.

What can we learn from Hinduism?

  1. Kindness: Always be nice to others! Just like you would want others to help and support you, spread kindness in your daily life.

  2. Do Your Best: Whether it’s homework or helping your parents at home, always try your hardest!

  3. Share Your Joy: Celebrate victories, big or small! Just like festivals bring happiness, share those special moments with your friends and family.

  4. Respect Everyone: Show respect to all—friends, family, and even nature! It makes the world a better place to live.

By following these lessons, you can bring love and joy into your life and the lives of those around you. Hinduism, with its rich traditions and teachings, can inspire us all to be better people and make a positive impact in our communities today and every day!
