Have you ever wondered how the world is protected, and important lessons are taught to us? Well, in Hindu beliefs, God Vishnu takes on different forms, known as avatars, to help keep the balance in our world. These ten main forms are collectively called the Dashavatara. Each avatar has a special story and an important lesson that can guide us in our daily lives.
myNachiketa presents Lessons from the Ten Avatars of Vishnu for children.
1. Matsya Avatar (Fish) - The Lesson of Protection and Wisdom
Bhagwan Vishnu, in his Matsya (fish) avatar, saved the sage Manu from a great flood that threatened to destroy life.
Lesson: Matsya Avatar teaches us the importance of using wisdom to protect ourselves and others. When we think ahead and act wisely, we can help prevent harm and keep everyone safe.
2. Kurma Avatar (Tortoise) - The Lesson of Patience and Support
In his Kurma Avatar, Bhagwan Vishnu took the form of a tortoise and supported Mount Mandara while the ocean was being churned to retrieve the nectar of immortality.
Lesson: Avatar Kurma reminds us to stay patient and support others in difficult times—like helping a friend study or staying calm when things take time.
3. Varaha Avatar (Boar) - The Lesson of Courage
In his Varaha (boar) form, Bhagwan Vishnu rescued the Earth from a demon who had taken it deep into the ocean.
Lesson: Varaha Avatar teaches us to be brave and protect what matters most, just as we should stand up for what is right or help a friend in need.
4. Narasimha Avatar (Half Man-Half Lion) - The Lesson of Standing Up Against Wrong
To save his devotee Prahlada from his cruel father, Bhagwan Vishnu appeared as Narasimha—half man and half lion—and destroyed evil.
Lesson: Avatar Narasimha teaches us courage and righteousness. Even when it’s hard, we must speak up when someone is being treated unfairly.
5. Vamana Avatar (The Dwarf form) - The Lesson of Humility and Intelligence
In the Vamana Avatar, Bhagwan Vishnu, the dwarf, tricked the demon king Bali by asking for three steps of land and then covered the earth in just three strides.
Lesson: Avatar Vamana shows that intelligence and humility can achieve great things. Being clever doesn’t mean being proud—it means using our mind kindly and wisely.

6. Parashurama Avatar – The Lesson of Justice and Determination
Parashurama, the warrior with an axe, destroyed greedy kings who misused power and harmed others.
Lesson: Avatar Parashurama teaches us to be determined in doing what’s right. When you see unfairness or bullying, don’t ignore it—seek help and stand for justice.
7. Rama Avatar – The Lesson of Truth and Duty
Rama, the prince of Ayodhya, is known for his noble qualities. His story in the Ramayana teaches us about truth, duty, and kindness.
Lesson: Avatar Rama teaches us to be truthful, kind, and respectful. Always do your duty and treat others with fairness, just as he did.
8. Krishna Avatar – The Lesson of Love and Friendship
Avatar Krishna, the playful butter thief and wise teacher of the Bhagavad Gita, showed us how to live joyfully and do our duty with love.
Lesson: Avatar Krishna inspires us to be loving, helpful, and brave. Share, care, and stand up for what’s right—small acts of kindness create big changes!
9. Buddha Avatar – The Lesson of Peace and Compassion
As Buddha, Bhagwan Vishnu appeared to teach the world about peace, understanding, and compassion.
Lesson: Avatar Buddha teaches us to be kind, patient, and caring. Listen to others, help those who are sad, and choose peace over anger.
10. Kalki Avatar (Future) – The Lesson of Hope and Renewal
Finally, Kalki, the future avatar, is yet to appear but promises to bring justice and restore righteousness when needed.
Lesson: Avatar Kalki reminds us to never lose hope. Even in tough times, good always wins in the end.
What We Learn from the Dashavatara
Each avatar of Bhagwan Vishnu teaches us a value—wisdom, patience, courage, honesty, kindness, peace, and hope. When we practice these values, we become better human beings and make the world a brighter place.
So dear children, let’s remember these lessons and live by them every day—being kind, truthful, and brave in all we do!
